AL MARTINO DIES
Singer Al Martino, who topped the first ever British pop charts with Here In My Heart in 1952, has died, aged 82.
Martino, who played the Frank Sinatra type role of Johnny Martino in The Godfather, died at his home in the Philadelphia suburb of Springfield.
No cause of death was given and Philadelphia broadcaster Jerry Blavat, who had dinner with Martino and his wife Judi on Monday night said he was shocked because he had appeared to be in good health.
Martino, whose other hits included Spanish Eyes, Volare, Can't Help Falling in Love and I Love You Because, lived in England for several years after appearing The Godfather, after he became entangled with the real Mafia.
He also sang The Godfather title song, The Love Theme From The Godfather.
