ANGELIC NAME FOR BEN AFFLECK'S DAUGHTER
Actor Ben Affleck and his Daredevil co-star wife Jennifer Garner have named their new daughter Seraphina Rose Elizabeth Affleck.
The baby, a sister for three-year old Violet Anne, was born on January 6.
The proud parents, both 36, did not give any explanation for the name.
But Pamela Redmond Satran, author of Baby Name Bible, told Us magazine: “Seraphina is an elaborately feminine kind of name that's really come into style over the past few years.
“Seraphim is one of the highest orders of angels. It kind of follows from Angelina, which has gotten super popular because of Angelina Jolie, as a spiritual, heavenly name.
“The 'ph' spelling of Seraphina is more Hebrew in origin. It means “ardent”, which is passionate.
“Ben and Jen really put Violet on the map. They transformed it from what people saw as a dowdy, old-lady name to a really cute, modern choice.”
But another name expert, Jennifer Moss, founder of BabyNames.com said it could be an awkward name to pronounce.
She said: “Seraphina is a beautiful name, based on the Seraphim, the highest order of angels.
“I'm not a fan of the double middle name but it's nice they continued the flower theme by including the name Rose
“The only thing that may be a little cumbersome is saying her first and last name together – “Hello, my name is Seraphina Affleck.”
Pearl Harbor star Affleck, who has not been on the screen since Smokin' Aces in 2006, taking time out to direct Gone Baby Gone, will be seen in He's Just Not That Into You, due for release next month.
Garner's next film, The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, comes out in May, and she has also finished work on This Side of the Truth, starring Ricky Gervais, who also wrote and directed the film.
