ANGELINA JOLIE REPLACES CHARLIZE THERON
Charlize Theron has dropped out of the thriller The Tourist, and Angelina Jolie is said to be in talks to replace her.
As well as replacing Theron, 34, who had been attached to the project for a while, the film is seeking a new director after Bharat Nalluri left last week.
Jolie, also 34, who has just finished an action role in Salt, would play an American tourist who goes undercover on behalf of Interpol who help trap her former lover, a suspected world-wide criminal.
The role is described as half seductress, half action heroine, and the film as Hitchcokian in atmosphere.
The film, a remake of the 2005 French movie Anthony Zimmer, is due to star shooting in early January, so according to The Hollywood Reporter production company Spyglass will act quickly to find a new director.
South African Oscar-winner Theron, who dates Irish actor Stuart Townsend, is not the first star to be recast.
Tom Cruise was originally in talks to play the male lead but the role went to Terminator: Salvation and Avatar actor Sam Worthington, 33.
Ironically, Jolie replaced Cruise in her latest film, Salt, due for release next August.
Theron, also an Oscar winner for Monster in 2004, will next be see in the post-apocalyptic thriller The Road, out in January.
