BONO BELIEVES OBAMA'S AIDS PLEDGE
U2 frontman and political activist Bono has revealed he has been in touch with US President Barack Obama about Aids funding.
He said he is confident Obama will follow through on his campaign promises, while noting that America feels less optimistic than when he and the band performed City of Blinding Lights at his inauguration in January.
“I didn't think it would come to this so quickly after the joyous occasion of that election,” he said. “I thought America was looking good. Things are getting a little rough now.”
But he said he believes Obama will come through for a cause close to his heart – fighting Aids in Africa.
“The Obama administration is just getting going,” he went on. “He has promised to double aid over the next years, because even though Bush tripled it, the United States is still about half what European countries give as a percentage, and I think he knows that's not right.”
U2 finish the North American leg of their 360 tour in Vancouver on Wednesday and will resume touring in Europe next August.
UP until October 12 the sell-out show had been seen by more than 2.7 million people and grossed $275,995,259 in ticket sales.
