HALLOWEEN BIBLE BURNING

By Liz Hodgson - Posted on 25 October 2009

A fundamentalist church is planning a Halloween bonfire of “heretical” books – including the Bible and writings by the Pope and Mother Teresa.
Pastor Marc Grizzard of the tiny Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Canton, North Carolina, believes that the King James version of the Bible is the only true word of God and that all other English translations are “perversions of God's word” and “Satan's bibles.”
He and his 14-strong congregation will also burn books by preachers including Billy Graham and Robert Schuller, as well as music including Southern gospel and contemporary Christian, plus pop, country, rap and heavy metal.
“We are burning books that we believe to be Satanic,” said Grizzard, whose web page says he has been a minister for 25 years. “I believe the King James version is God's preserved, inspired, inerrant, infallible word of God.”
The book-burning, billed as “Burning Perversions of God's Word,” promises great preaching and singing and includes a dinner of barbecued and fried chicken.
The Authorised King James Bible was published in 1611.
Pastor Grizzard said they are not burning copies of earlier English translations, The Wyclyffe Bible, published in 1382, the Tyndale Bible, published in the 1530s, and the Geneva Bible, published in 1660, or translations into languages other than English.”
Some people in the town of just over 4,000 people support his move.
Resident Sissy Messer told Fox News: In my opinion, the King James version is the only version.”
But another, Judy Kirby, said: “I think some of the newer versions make it easier for people to understand.”
Pastor Grizzard cites biblical references on the church web site to justify the book burning.
