HUGH GRANT'S DAD HAS ART EXHIBITION
The father of actor Hugh Grant has had a New York art exhibition to raise money for disabled children.
Nearly all the 86 water colours James Grant, 81, displayed at the Keszler Gallery in Southampton sold at a weekend auction, with prices from $250 to $750.
Music and Lyrics and Love, Actually star Hugh, who turns 49 today, was on hand to lend his support.
“I'm so proud of my dad,” he told the New York Daily News. “He's been painting all my life.
“My dad, who lives in London and is originally from Scotland, follows the tradition of Scottish colourists. And I really love his colours in these nature scenes.
His 81-year-old father said: “I'm only an amateur painter. This is only my second exhibit, and it's for a good cause – the Southampton Fresh Air Home, a camp for physically challenged kids.”
His first exhibition was in London three years ago, to raise money for cancer research.
“My wife died 10 years ago from cancer,” he said. “My younger son, Hugh, set up that exhibit.”
His other son, Jamie, 51, said: “Most of these painting came about because when my brother and I get together, my Dad just disappears to paint, so he doesn't have to spend time talking.”
Hugh, whose next film, Did You Hear About the Morgans? opens on New Year's Day, was visiting his brother for the weekend and confessed to a motive other than his father's artwork.
“I also come out here to play golf, since I'm a golf fanatic,” he said.
