MAGNUM P.I. STAR FAILED TO DETECT DODGY HORSE

Magnum P. I. actor Tom Selleck has won a court battle after the super sleuth TV star claimed he failed to detect he was buying a dodgy horse.
Selleck, who has also starred in a string of Wild West cowboy movies, has been awarded more than US$187,000 in compensation after a California jury found he was duped into buying the lame mount.
The 64-year-old actor accused Del Mar equestrian Dolores Cuenca of trying to pass off a show horse with a medical condition as fit to ride in competitions.
The defence had argued that experienced rider Selleck did not check the veterinarian records of the 10-year-old horse named Zorro.
The bulk of the San Diego County jury's award is for the price of the horse. The rest is to cover boarding costs.
A second trial this week will determine how much Selleck should be paid in punitive damages.
Selleck is best known for his role for playing Hawaii-based detective Thomas Magnum in the popular 1980s TV series.
But he has also starred in such movies as the 1990 cowboy dispatched to Australia adventure Quigley Down Under, the 1987 comedy 3 Men And A Baby, the 1930s set jewellery thief thriller Lassiter, in which he co-starred with Jane Seymour, which was made in 1984, the sci-fi action movie Runaway - made the same year - and the 1983 adventure High Road To China.
Selleck got his movie break making a brief appearance opposite screen legend Mae West in the bizarre 1970 comedy Myra Beckinridge.
