MEL GIBSON TO DIRECT LEONARDO DICAPRIO
Leonardo DiCaprio will star in Mel Gibson's next gritty historical epic, set in the Viking world.
The script is being written by William Monahan, who won the best adapted screenplay for DiCaprio's film The Departed, and Graham King, who won the best picture award for the same film, will produce with Gibson and Tim Headington.
“This will be an awe-inspiring story, created with some of the industry's finest cinematic talent and I am just over the moon to be making this film with Mel, Leo and Bill,” King told Daily Variety.
The film, which does not yet have a title, is expected to be as uncompromising as the other period pieces directed by Gibson, Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto.
It will be the first time DiCaprio, 35, who is know to be fascinated by the Vikings, has worked with Gibson, 53.
The film is expected to start shooting next autumn.
Gibson will be seen in Edge of Darkness, written by Monahan, his first appearance in front of the camera in six years, in January.
DiCaprio teamed up with Martin Scorsese, who directed him in Gangs of New York, The Aviator and The Departed for his next film, Shutter Island, due for release in February.
Scorsese is also set to direct him in The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt, The Wolf of Wall Street and Cache in the next two years.
