MELANIE GRIFFITH IN REHAB
Actress Melanie Griffith, who has battled booze and drugs since her teenage days, has checked into rehab.
The 52-year-old Body Double and Crazy in Alabama star is staying a Cirque Lodge in Utah, where Lindsay Lohan was treated in 2007.
“She is there to reinforce her commitment to say health,” her spokesman told television show Entertainment Tonight. “This is part of a routine plan that was designed between her and her doctors years ago.”
Griffith has admitted taking cocaine when she was a teenager.
Drink and drugs were a part of her first, six-month marriage to future Miami Vice star Don Johnson in 1976, when she was just 18.
At 23 she was hit by a car on Sunset Boulevard, and doctors said she would probably have been killed if she had not been so drunk.
After her 1987 divorce from her second husband, Steven Bauer, 52, father of her 24-year-old son Alexander, she admitted turning to drink and drugs for solace.
Working on her 1988 hit Working Girl, which won her a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination her substance abuse was so out of hand that director Mike Nichol insisted she went into rehab.
She reconciled with Johnson, who had also fought his booze demons, and they married again in 1989, having a daughter, Dakota, now 19.
Six years later she left him because of his drinking, reconciled, and finally divorced him in 1996, marrying Spanish heartthrob Antonio Banderas, 49, three months later.
Their daughter, Stella, now 12, was born four months later.
In 1998 she went back into rehab in Los Angeles and said on her web site: “My doctor has referred me to the Daniel Freeman Hospital to step down from the prescribed medication that I have been taking for a neck injury.”
Two years later she was back in the same hospital, citing the same reason.
No reason has been given for her latest treatment
