Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage is suing his business manager for driving him to the brink of financial ruin.
He claims Samuel Levin was so reckless and incompetent with his money that he has been forced to sell of part of his property empire and is facing massive tax debts.
In the past two weeks it has been revealed that Cage owes more than $6 million in income tax and is being sued for non-payment of a $2 million line of credit.
Now, in his Los Angeles superior Court lawsuit he accuses Levin of lining his own pockets at his expense while leaving the actor facing “catastrophic losses.”
Leaving Las Vegas, National Treasure and Bangkok Dangerous star Cage, who earns up to $20 million a film, claims that over a seven-year period: “Instead of protecting and preserving Cage's wealth during one of the greatest economic periods in the country's history, Levin placed Cage in numerous highly speculative and risky real estate investment, resulting in Cage suffering catastrophic losses.”
Cage, 45, who has a four-year-old son, Kal-El, with third wife Alice Kim, said he only learned his true financial position when he fired Levin and hired new advisers.
He charges: “As a result of Levin's gross mismanagement of the financial affairs of Cage, Cage has suffered significant money losses, and his reputation has been irreparably tarnished.”
Cage, who in the last year has sold his castle in Bavaria and one of his properties in England, and put three American mansions and an English castle on the market, is seeking a minimum of $20 million in damages.
