SANDRA BULLOCK'S CHILDFREE CHOICE
Actress Sandra Bullock has revealed she decided not to have children of her own for the sake of her stepdaughter.
Her husband, biking expert Jesse James is locked in a bitter custody dispute with his ex-wife, porn star Janine Lindemulder, over their five-year-old daughter, Sunny.
Lindemulder claims Speed and Miss Congeniality star Bullock, 45, is preventing her from seeing Sunny – and says she wants custody of the little girl because she can't have children.
But in a letter Bullock wrote to a judge before Lindemulder was sentenced on tax evasion charges she said: “I am aware that Janine has claimed many times that my desire to have Sunny was because I could not have children of my own.
“As difficult as that is for me to hear, and write, it couldn't be further from the truth.”
The letter, obtained by ABC news, said she decided to forgo having a baby after she and her husband: “Realised that due to the instability in Sunny's life, bringing another child into the world as this time would not be in Sunny's best interest.”
She went on: “I myself have stopped working like I used to in order to be here with Jesse and the kids because we are on constant 'high alert.' Never knowing what condition Janine will be in, and even more concerning, the condition Sunny will be in.
“While in Janine's care, sometimes Sunny is left along during the day, while her mother is asleep from drug use."
She and Monster Garage host James, 40, who have been married for four years, had custody of Sunny while her mother was in jail, but now Lindemulder is free she wants her back.
James, who has two children from his first marriage, wants full custody.
Bullock also wrote: “I know the term 'stepmother' carries many connotations, one of them being a 'glorified babysitter.' My commitment and responsibility to Sunny, and Chandler and Jesse Jr, goes beyond that.
“We are FULLY prepared to accept the responsibility and make Sunny's transition as healthy as possible if full custody should be awarded to Jesse.
“We are here, and know we have a tough road ahead of us but we have built a strong and stable foundation, which makes us ready for anything.”
Lindemulder, 40, denies the claims and wants a face-to-face meeting to thrash things out.
She told television's Good Morning America: “It hurts tremendously, the accusations, especially from Sandra.
“Even more so because we've never sat down and talked. You know, that's the one thing that I wish more than anything, for a remedy for what's happening here, is just communication.
“Sandy doesn't know what goes on in my house. Please, come over! I'll make dinner, let's sit down, two women.
“What would give her the right to take away my daughter? You know, this is my daughter. I am the best mother I can be.”
