SEAN PENN WORKING ON MARRIAGE, NOT FILM
Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn has dropped out of two films to concentrate on his troubled marriage.
Penn, 48, was due to star in the crime drama Cartel and the comedy The Three Stooges – though he could change his mid if their start dates were delayed.
The star of Milk and Mystic River has twice split from Robin Wright Penn, 43, his wife of 13 years in the last 18 months.
In December 2007 they started divorce proceedings but withdrew their petition the following April.
Penn filed for legal separation in April but stopped the court action last month.
He and the Moll Flanders and Forrest Gump star have two children, daughter Dylan, 18, and son Hopper, 15.
A source close to Penn said he wants to take time away from the camera to solidify their relationship.
His publicist told E! News: “We indeed informed both productions that Sean was not available now. If for whatever reason the state dates on these productions were to be postponed, Sean would happily remain involved.”
Penn, who has finished work on the Terence Malik fantasy The Tree of Life, with Brad Pitt, and the political drama Fair Game, with Naomi Watts, is still attached to This Must Be The Place, about a retired rocker tracking down his father's Nazi executioner.
His wife, last seen in State of Play, with Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck, stars in a new version of A Christmas Carol, with Jim Carrey and Gary Oldman, due for release in November.
