STAR TREK DOGS TO LIVE LONG AND PROSPER
The widow of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry Gene Roddenberry made sure her beloved dogs would live long and prosper after she died.
Majel Roddenberry, who died last December, aged 76, left a $4 million trust for the upkeep of a multi-million dollar house for them to live in – and a further $1 million to a housekeeper, Reinelda Estupinian, to care for them, along with the right for her to live in the mansion.
According to entertainment site TMZ, she said in trust papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court that Reinelda deserves the windfall because she: “Did an excellent job of caring for my animals (giving them comparable or better car than that which I gave them during my lifetime).”
She did not forget the couple's only son, Rod.
He gets her Bel Air mansion plus $60 million up front.
He also received a $10 million bonus when he turned 35 in February, and will get a further $10 million on his 40th and 45th birthdays.
Gene Roddenberry died in 1991, aged 70, and six years later his widow had part of his ashes launched into space.
After Majel's death their son announced that their cremated remains will be launched into deep space by Celestis Inc, on a spacecraft set to be launched in 2012.
